3,000-square-foot Creativity Center.
A recent retreat featured Jacqueline
De Jonge, an award-winning pattern
writer and fabric designer. From early
morning to late at night, attendees
benefit from fresh-made meals,
make-and-take projects, giveaways,
demonstrations, and fully stocked
sewing stations.
Randa has decades of retail and
entrepreneurial experience. One of
seven children in a family of
seamstresses, Randa was influenced
by visits to the neighborhood store
where her grandmother sold Singer
sewing machines. She learned the
importance of service while working
in her grandfather’s restaurant during
her growing-up years.
In 2000, a health issue forced
Randa to rethink her business
direction. That same year, she met
and befriended lap quilter Georgia
Bonesteel, who encouraged Randa to
start a quilt show in Oklahoma City.
In March 2001, Randa found what is
now Prairie Quilt shop while looking
for rental space to occupy as an office
while producing the Oklahoma City
Winter Quilt Show. The owner of
the existing fabric shop was looking
to retire, but Randa wasn’t really
looking to buy a fabric shop.
After considering the possibility
of running both, she agreed to
purchase the shop. Randa ran both for
seven years before she sold the quilt
show. “I have never regretted putting
all my focus on the shop. I love this
place, the buzzing of activity, the
artistic part of the business, and
being able to work with great clients
and team members,” says Randa.
Since opening the shop, Randa has
produced the Road to Oklahoma Shop
Hop, for which she helped design an
Oklahoma signature fabric. She also
has built an online inventory of more
than 10,000 quilt-related products.
Randa also enjoys sailing and
spending time with her children and

grandchildren. She does not feel the
need to retire. “I love what I’m
doing,” she says. “My heart is full
when I know others are expressing
their creativity through sewing.”
