  1. Sew together a cream/pink
    triangle-square and a pink print
    21 ⁄ 2 × 101 ⁄ 2 " rectangle to make Unit I
    (Diagram 18). The unit should
    be 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 121 ⁄ 2 " including seam
    allowances. Repeat to make eight
    I units total.

  2. Sew together a purple tone-
    on-tone 2^1 ⁄ 2 " square and a cream
    tone-on-tone 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 141 ⁄ 2 " rectangle to
    make Unit J (Diagram 19). The unit
    should be 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 161 ⁄ 2 " including seam
    allowances. Repeat to make eight
    J units total.

  3. Referring to Diagram 20, sew
    together a pink print 2^1 ⁄ 2 " square,
    a cream tone-on-tone 2^1 ⁄ 2 " square,
    an orange print 2^1 ⁄ 2 " square, a cream
    tone-on-tone 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 81 ⁄ 2 " rectangle,
    and a magenta tone-on-tone 2^1 ⁄ 2 "
    square to make Unit K. The unit
    should be 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 161 ⁄ 2 " including
    seam allowances. Repeat to make
    16 K units total.

  4. Join a cream/magenta triangle-
    square to left-hand end of a K unit
    to make Unit L (Diagram 21). The
    unit should be 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 181 ⁄ 2 " including
    seam allowances. Repeat to make
    eight L units total.
    13. Sew together a cream tone-
    on-tone 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 81 ⁄ 2 " rectangle and a
    cream/pink triangle-square to make
    Unit M (Diagram 22). The unit
    should be 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 101 ⁄ 2 " including
    seam allowances. Repeat to make
    eight M units total.
    14. Sew together a cream/pink
    triangle-square and a pink print
    21 ⁄ 2 × 101 ⁄ 2 " rectangle to make
    Unit N (Diagram 23). The unit
    should be 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 121 ⁄ 2 " including
    seam allowances. Repeat to make
    eight N units total.
    15. Join a cream/pink triangle-square
    to right-hand end of an N unit to
    make Unit O (Diagram 24). The
    unit should be 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 141 ⁄ 2 " including
    seam allowances. Repeat to make
    four O units total.
    16. Sew together a cream/magenta
    triangle-square and a cream tone-
    on-tone 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 141 ⁄ 2 " rectangle to
    make Unit P (Diagram 25). The
    unit should be 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 161 ⁄ 2 " including
    seam allowances. Repeat to make
    four P units total.


Assemble Block 1


  1. Referring to Diagram 26, sew
    a purple tone-on-tone 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 81 ⁄ 2 "
    rectangle to top edge of a purple
    center unit. Add an A unit to left-
    hand edge.

  2. Join a B unit to bottom edge of
    Step 1 unit; then add a C unit to
    right-hand edge (Diagram 27). The
    unit now should be 12^1 ⁄ 2 " square
    including seam allowances.

  3. Referring to Diagram 28, sew
    purple tone-on-tone 4^1 ⁄ 2 × 121 ⁄ 2 " and
    41 ⁄ 2 × 161 ⁄ 2 " rectangles to top and left-
    hand edges of Step 2 unit.
