Assemble Block 4


  1. Beginning with bottom edge
    and working in counterclockwise
    direction, sew a cream tone-on-tone
    21 ⁄ 2 × 81 ⁄ 2 " rectangle, an M unit, a
    G unit, and an H unit to a cream
    center unit (Diagram 36).

  2. Join an I unit and O unit to
    bottom and right-hand edges of
    Step 1 unit (Diagram 37).
    3. Beginning with bottom edge
    and working in counterclockwise
    direction, sew a cream tone-on-tone
    21 ⁄ 2 × 141 ⁄ 2 " rectangle, a P unit, a
    K unit, and an L unit to Step 2 unit
    to make Block 4 (Diagram 38).
    The block should be 18^1 ⁄ 2 " square
    including seam allowances.
    4. Repeat steps 1–3 to make four
    total of Block 4.


Assemble Quilt Top


  1. Sew together a cream tone-on-
    tone 2^1 ⁄ 2 " square and a magenta
    tone-on-tone 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 161 ⁄ 2 " rectangle
    to make a short sashing unit
    (Diagram 39). The unit should
    be 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 181 ⁄ 2 " including seam
    allowances. Repeat to make four
    short sashing units total.

  2. Sew together two magenta
    tone-on-tone 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 161 ⁄ 2 " rectangles
    and a cream tone-on-tone 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 41 ⁄ 2 "
    rectangle to make a long sashing
    unit (Diagram 40). The unit should
    be 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 361 ⁄ 2 " including seam
    allowances. Repeat to make a second
    long sashing unit.

  3. Referring to Quilt Assembly
    Diagram, lay out blocks, short and
    long sashing units, and remaining
    cream tone-on-tone 2^1 ⁄ 2 " square in
    five rows. Sew together pieces in each
    row. Press seams in one direction,
    alternating direction with each row.
    Join rows to complete quilt top.
    Press seams in one direction.


Finish Quilt


  1. Layer quilt top, batting, and
    backing; baste. (For details, see
    Complete Quilt, Pattern Sheet 2.)

  2. Quilt as desired. Ivete Tecedor
    machine-quilted ripples in the
    assorted cream tone-on-tone pieces
    and parallel lines in the purple tone-
    on-tone areas.
