  1. Mark a diagonal line on wrong
side of each light print 5^1 ⁄ 2 " square
and each light, medium, or dark
    print 4^1 ⁄ 2 " square.

  2. Referring to Cut, Assemble, and
Add Border 1, Step 2, page 30, use
    marked light print 5^1 ⁄ 2 " squares and
    medium or dark print 5^1 ⁄ 2 " squares
    to make four triangle-squares.

  3. Mark a diagonal line perpendicular
to seam line on wrong side of two
    matching Step 2 triangle-squares.
Referring to Cut, Assemble, and Add
Border 1, Step 4, use marked and
    unmarked triangle-squares to make
four hourglass units. Trim each unit
    to 4^1 ⁄ 2 " square including seam
    allowances.

  4. Gather five light, medium, or
    dark print 4^1 ⁄ 2 × 81 ⁄ 2 " rectangles and
five sets of two matching marked
    print or floral 4^1 ⁄ 2 " squares.
    5. Working on a design wall, lay
    out 4^1 ⁄ 2 × 81 ⁄ 2 " rectangles along top
edge of quilt center (Diagram 8).
    Layer matching marked print or
floral squares atop left-hand end of
    first rectangle and right-hand end
    of fifth rectangle (Diagram 9).

lay out pieces along each remaining
edge of quilt center. Each rectangle
should be layered with two marked
squares (for large Flying Geese units).
    7. Gather a 4^1 ⁄ 2 × 81 ⁄ 2 " rectangle and
    its corresponding marked squares.
Referring to Cut, Assemble, and Add
    Border 3, Step 5, page 31, make a

large Flying Geese unit (Diagram 10;
note orientation of seams). The unit
should be 4^1 ⁄ 2 × 81 ⁄ 2 " including seam
allowances. Return unit to design
wall. Repeat to make 20 large Flying
Geese units total.

  1. Referring to Quilt Assembly
    Diagram, sew together the five
    large Flying Geese units along
left-hand edge of quilt center to
make a short border 5 strip. Press
seams in one direction. The strip
    should be 4^1 ⁄ 2 × 401 ⁄ 2 " including
    seam allowances. Repeat with right-
hand edge to make a second short
    border 5 strip.

  2. Referring to Quilt Assembly
    Diagram, join two hourglass units
and five large Flying Geese units
along top edge of quilt center to
make a long border 5 strip. Press
seams in one direction. The strip
    should be 4^1 ⁄ 2 × 481 ⁄ 2 " including seam
    allowances. Repeat with bottom edge
to make a second long border 5 strip.

  3. Sew short border 5 strips to
opposite edges of quilt center. Add
