interested in going in a surprising
way, I will quite happily go along
with it!”
That interest in helping rather
than herding means that on most
days Jan and her staff do a lot of
what she calls “over-the-cutting-table
educating.” They even keep a
collection of step-by-step samples
on hand as teaching tools. Many
customers come in with questions,
and Jan loves to be their quilting

resource. “Many of the techniques
we teach are rooted in tradition,” Jan
says, “but we encourage customers to
be creative and try new things.”
That is only appropriate in a
forward-looking shop with a home
rooted in its community and a name
rooted in the tradition of quilting.
