shopping district about a mile
from downtown Denver.

F

ancy Tiger Crafts, a shop
with an emphasis on natural
fibers in both fabric and
yarn, fills a former Woolworth’s
building in Denver’s South Broadway
neighborhood, an area of 1930s-era
buildings about a mile from
downtown. “The area retains a lot
of local culture, which we love,”
says shop co-owner Jaime Jennings,
who opened Fancy Tiger Crafts in
2006 amid many women-owned
businesses, including restaurants and
retail shops. Amber Platzer Corcoran
became a co-owner in 2008.
Natural light from the shop’s
plate glass windows and skylights
shines on wide-plank wood flooring,
an exposed brick wall, and a
galvanized steel fan repurposed
from a wind pump. Amber calls the
look “Colorado prairie farmhouse,”
though the vibe is far from quaint.
Light wood shelving, built by a local
carpenter, holds fabric and yarn
arranged in rainbow order. Knitting
needles are stored in a former library

Rustic touches, repurposed materials,
and furnishings made by a local
metalsmith and woodworker give the
shop a cozy yet contemporary vibe.
