patterns is paramount to both Jaime
and Amber. They love bringing
curious crafters into the fold, and
their class calendar is filled with
offerings for newbies and the more
experienced. Classes include machine
quilting, garment making, sewing
and serging 101, creating a pattern
from a garment you own, and
stitching up a pair of espadrilles.
No matter how busy they are
with behind-the-scenes work, Jaime
and Amber make a point to join
customers who bring their English
paper piecing, embroidery, knitting,
and other “lap crafts” to weekly Craft
Nights. “I love the community aspect
of it,” Jaime says, “and it’s a great way
for people new to Denver to make
friends.” The shop, which often has
male employees, has hosted Man
Made, a night of camaraderie and
crafts among men, for eight years.
In addition to creating an
inclusive, welcoming community,
Jaime and Amber strive to make
Fancy Tiger Crafts an earth-friendly
business by stocking natural fibers
and donating a percentage of their
sales to environmentally focused
causes. “We think deeply about
the impact we’re making,” Jamie
says, “and are really excited about
trying to make our business better
for the world, our employees, and
our customers.”
