Assemble Flying Geese
Units
Measurements include^1 ⁄ 4 " seam
allowances. Sew with right sides
together unless otherwise stated.
Press seams in directions
indicated by arrows on diagrams.
If no direction is specified, press
seam toward darker fabric.



  1. Use a pencil to mark a diagonal
    line on wrong side of each light
    gray print 3" square.

  2. Align a marked light gray print
    square on one end of a blue, gray,
    brown, cream, or beige print
    3 × 51 ⁄ 2 " rectangle (Diagram 1; note
    direction of marked line). Sew on
    marked line. Trim seam allowance
    to^1 ⁄ 4 " and press open attached
    triangle. Add a second marked light
    gray print square to opposite end of
    rectangle to make a Flying Geese
    unit. The unit should be 3× 51 ⁄ 2 "
    including seam allowances. Repeat
    to make 192 Flying Geese
    units total.


Assemble Blocks



  1. Referring to Diagram 2, join
    three Flying Geese units to make
    a Flying Geese section. The Flying
    Geese section should be 8× 51 ⁄ 2 "
    including seam allowances.
    2. Lay out Flying Geese section,
    two light gray print large triangles,
    and two light gray print small
    triangles in three diagonal rows.
    Sew small triangles to short edges.
    Add large triangles to remaining
    edges to make a block (Diagram 3).
    The block should be 9^1 ⁄ 2 " square
    including seam allowances
    (Diagram 4).
    3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 to make 64
    blocks total.
