GAANESH PRASAD

FLY HIGH

Gaanesh Prasad is a project manager by profession and

an ardent photographer who absolutely loves travel,

street and sports photography. He captured his dynam-

ic people category winning image at the Wings over
Illawarra Airshow. Here, he spent the day searching for

a unique way to capture the crowd and the action.

“I believe in continuous learning and every time
I step out I learn something new.” he says. “Photogra-

phy for me [ref lects my] love of life and I enjoy every

moment I spend with my camera.”

This is a top shot. It’s a photograph that captures
the imagination and expresses the personality of the
photographer as well as the person in front of the camera
(without even seeing their face).
Humorous, compositionally strong, simple and direct.
We can see the story and can rejoice in the superb use of
black and white shapes, tones  and spaces found within
the frame. Congratulations.

You don’t need to see his face to tell this story. This portrait
is taken from a voyeuristic perspective, and tells so much
without seeing a lot. The silhouette of the man, composed
and timed perfectly with the form of the planes and vapour

  • the centred composition in the vast country space feels
quite conceptual. He is immersed in the moment while
simultaneously capturing it. It makes for a great tonal
    black-and-white image.

This image creates both ease and dis-ease for the viewer.
A veteran looking on at an airshow in pristine surrounds on a
beautiful day, also echoes humankind’s tumultuous past and
our view towards an uncertain political and environmental
future. Uprising contrails that end in the uniformed descent
of the warbirds. It’s a simply and beautifully composed
image that shows skilled use of composition and framing.
