Wiring thecompressor

Getting it right first time

The backing plateis used asa

template tomark and drill out the

bolts holes from therearofthe bulkhead,

giving an accuratefi xing location.

Make it firmand solid

With the bolt holes drilled out, it is an

easyjobtofi t thecompressor in

position and tighten up thefour M6 bolts,

using a 10 mmsocketwrench.

The routing begins

The radio unit has beenremoved

from thecentredashtoallow access

tothe blanks where theswitches will be

mounted andtoroute the wiring harness.

The wiring harnessdoes not havethe

connecting plugfi tted.This allows

thecabletobeeasilyrouted through

restricted areas, including an 8 mm hole in

thepanels.

THE wiring harnessthat is included

in the ARB aircompressor kit is an

excellent design. Most oftheconnec-

tions are alreadyset up with labelled

terminals or groupsofterminals.

There arereally onlytwo connections

tomake that needsome electrical

knowledge, needingyou tolocate a

switched ignitionfeed in the dash and

an active dash light supply. A multim-

eter or automotivetest light is invalu-

ablefor locating thesepower supplies

but, if in doubt, askfor the helpofan

auto electrician oryour localgarage.

The compressor’s mainconnections

tothebattery need theterminalstobe

crimped on.Theseare left off

initiallytoallow thecabletobe

routed throughpanels and grom-

mets, andtoallowfor shortening the

cable, andfor someconfigurationof

24 volt systems.

Otherwise the trickiest part ofin-

stalling the wiring harnessis fi nding

a goodroute from thecompressor

locationtothebattery andtothe

dashboard.The more the loom is

safely concealed, the more profes-

sional lookingyour installation will

be. Always ensure thebattery is

disconnected beforeconnecting the

accessory wiring.

positive electricalfeed.
