THE Pebble lookedconventional with its
matt blackfi nish, but it also had a digital
readoutof battery capacity, whichwe rate
highly.The two USB 2.0sockets were
rated at 2.1 Ampscombined, and a USB-C
socket was pr esent as a speedier input
alternativeto the standard micro USB,
althoughyou can’t charge devic es from
this socket. So close were the scores in
this test that if theVeho managed a little
more than its charge score of 33 per cent,
it could have jumped upseveral places.

IF you’re the outdoorstype and drag
water in to the car, this one isfor you. It ’s
shockproof in itstough, rubberisedcase
and waterproofto IP68(full immersion).
It can even charge while underwater via
the USBfl ying lead. Otherwise, this can
be used aswell as the built-in USB3.0
socket, and itwas only thesecond device
to offer USB-C output. Like the MSC, it
can be charged via micro USB, lightning
or USB-Csockets.

BELKIN’Sofferingwas very much an
everyman’s power bank, being arounded-
edgerectangular design in matt black,
with four LEDsfor battery state and two
USB 2.0 outputsockets rated at 2.4
Amps. At 222 g, itsweight was als o
mid-range, although itscombined
charging performancewas an impressive
39 per cent, the second best on test.
Having noreal stand-outfeatures wasn’t
the endof the world, but itseems a bit
pricey fo r a 10,000 mAhbank.

ANKER’Ssecond entry again led onvalue
for money, being the cheapest here, and
only bettered by its big brother interms
of price per mAh. Itwas the third lightest
power bank ontest, and we liked its
slightlytexturedcase, which not only
made it better to grip but lookedgood,
too. Like most of the others, it showed
battery state via aseries of LEDs. It’s a
shame it had only one USB, although it’s
a la ter 3.0 (blue)version andrated at 2.4
Amps. Still, despite this, itcame close to
making our podium.

THISreally isfor theworld tr aveller,
havingfour mains power adaptors for
charging almost anywhere. It was he avy,
at 35 4 g, and muchof its weight was in
the tough protectivecasing. It had
pass-through charging, a 12 Vfl ying
socket and thetwo USBsockets (1 A and
2 A), with the charge results being the
best, at 40 percent. But it alsooffered DC
chargingat 12 V, 16 V and 19 V andwas
quite happy boosting a laptop. It wasn’t
cheap, but is great for long distance, HD
power requirements.

Then we discharged an iPhone 6 and
