hen it comes to hard tracks
in Australia that test out the
toughest built 4WDs in the
country, a few places come to
mind. For most of us, Coffs
Harbour, the Glasshouse, the Watagans and
Yalwal will get a mention. These places have
been well publicised because they offer some
downright scary tracks that are right up there
with the most challenging and committing in
the country. I can certainly verify this as I’ve
been driving around all these places and
compared with the rest of the country, there’s
not many places that have the number of hard
tracks in one smallish area.
One place that doesn’t really get a
mention when you’re talking about hard
tracks is the Port Macquarie region and in
particular, the hills around Wauchope and
Bago. Here you will find some amazing
tracks and the best part is that they receive
a lot less traffic than the more well known
areas both north and south. I reckon in the
four days we were there we barely scratched
the surface of this amazing area.
