1ST 80 SERIES
The old Red Petrol 80 Series was one of our
favourite camera cars. We picked this one up for
under $8k – and immediately went to work on
making it as bullet proof as possible.
The beast did a couple of years of being
absolutely tortured. In a 2 month period it spent 3
weeks being tortured in Cape York, then 3 weeks in
the Kimberley, then 1000km of corrugations back to
Cairns, before going to the tip of Cape York AGAIN!
It finally came to rest after one of the most crazy
Tasmania trips ever. It went into a bog hole and
found a stump that wasn’t discovered (first up
every track, remember) – this had it bogged in
deep mud with a bent chassis!
2ND 80 SERIES
We loved 80 Series Cruisers – they just couldn’t be
killed, they could carry 3 or 4 camera operators,
and had enough comfort to handle the big long
trips. This maroon one was the old NA 1HZ – it was
slow, sluggish, and handled like a tractor – but it
was reliable and did the job.
For about a year we kept saying ‘this’ll be its last
trip’ but it kept going and going!
The mods we made to it were just to make it
bulletproof – 2in lift, 33in tyres, locker, simple 12V
and reliable engine mods.
THE GU BUILD
After two Cruisers – we decided to go all out on a
camera car and make one even more capable.
So we teamed up with Nulon to build the Camera
Car GU!
This thing is a beast! Here’s what we’ve done
to it:

  • 35in General Grabber X3 Tyres

  • Roadsafe 3in Suspension lift with upgraded
    control arms

  • Braced spring and shock mounts

  • Upgrade turbo system thanks to MTQ

  • Clearview Towing Mirrors

  • Full Lithium battery setup by Deep Cycle
    Systems

  • Adventure Kings Roof Rack, Awnings, and
    Titan Rear Drawers
