eeping on top of your
cooling system is
one of the most
critical aspects
towards prolonging
your engines service life. Not
much else will stop a 4WD with
potential catastrophic and
expensive damage like a failed
cooling system. Think of it this
way, if your cooling system fails,
the next thing to go is your
engine which means big dollars
in repairs. Even though summer
is still a couple of months away,
the best time to get your cooling
system in good working order is
before it gets too hot!
But it’s not just a dodgy
radiator cap, split hose or low
coolant level that causes your

engine to overheat. Other things
like a missing fan shroud,
sticking brakes, or even a bad
engine tune can all increase
your engine’s operating
temperature. That’s why this
issue we’re going to take a
closer look at the lesser-known
reasons why 4WDs overheat -
the sorta’ stuff you might’ve
over-looked on your service,
but could be waiting to bite next
time you head off-road.
If you’re about to perform
some maintenance on your
engines cooling system, then
make sure you checkout this
issue’s DIY too, because we’ll
show you how to upgrade your
radiator and get your cooling
system in tip top shape!
