Steve Marriott, the founder of Fuel Doctors, began his career
driving trucks from London to the Middle East, then driving Heavy
Haulage leviathans, building petrochemical plants in Iran and
Saudi Arabia before arriving in Australia in 1980 on a working
holiday with a passion to drive pole trucks and road trains. The two
common denominator’s of the above were the constant changing
of fuel filters due to contamination and the use of fuel additives
that either blocked the fuel filters sooner or didn’t work at all.
Establishing Liquid Engineering Qld in 1990 as an underground
fuel tank cleaning and preventative maintenance company put Steve’s
fuel contamination experience to good use. With more work in service
stations & truck stops and access into those tanks limited to a 50mm
dip and 100mm fill, presented a considerable challenge to achieve the
removal of accumulated tank bottom debris.
A chance social meeting with an industrial chemist, who has a
special interest in fuel science led to the in-house development of a
formulation that would release and safely disperse tank bottom
debris into the fuel for removal via centrifuge and filtration - that
chemical was christened Fuel Doctor.
August 22nd 1994 was the first trading day of Fuel Doctors
Australia. They’ve been delivering world-class technical support

Fuel Doctors has been cleaning underground fuel tanks since- All of the fuel related additives they tested back then for
retail and industrial application made the problems of dirty fuel
tanks worse! They tell us sometimes they didn’t have time to test
and were very embarrassed when the result was worse than
when they started.
In those days they derived 100% of their income from cleaning
tanks, so making things worse was not a good business model;
twenty-seven years later they still derive 60% of their income
from getting dirty every day cleaning fuel tanks. Fuel Doctors are
the only fuel additive company in the world to generate the lion’s
share of its income by utilising the product it makes as a tool of
trade on a daily basis. Fuel Doctors raw materials for the blending
of Fuel Doctor are German sourced, because “quality not price” is
their prerequisite. If Fuel Doctor does not perform in their daily
tank cleaning operations, they are out of business as they only
have one product and only know one thing; fuel quality.
