Dick Wolf might not be a household
name in Britain, but in the Law &
Order and Chicago franchises, he
has created some of the most
successful series in TV history.
Now the producer is back with
new crime drama FBI – which
starts with a double bill – following
the inner workings of New York’s
elite FBI unit as they battle to keep
the city and America safe. Leading
the cast of this fast-paced procedural
is Missy Peregrym, who plays FBI
special agent Maggie Bell.

CARDINAL CASES
Born into a law-enforcement
family of long-standing, Maggie is
grieving the death of her husband
Jason, an investigative reporter, and
is determined to be a force of good
in a world spinning out of control.

‘Maggie hasn’t really dealt with
the tragedy. She’s buried herself
in the work, and right now she is
putting everything she has into
something good,’ says Peregrym.
‘She’s a workaholic and has focused
all of her energy into her cases.

‘Despite Maggie’s bereavement,
we don’t spend much time on
the characters’ personal lives
because we are dealing with such
huge topics. It’s really about the
people who are working together
to solve these cases.’

This week’s first episode opens
in explosive fashion when an
apartment building in the Bronx is
blown apart by two bomb blasts,
killing two young boys. At first it
appears to be part of a gang war,
until further investigations reveal
something far more sinister.
Later cases involve people
traffickers, a deadly sniper and a
woman who is poisoning takeaway
food after being recruited online
by a radical organisation.

DIVERSE CAST
‘New York is one of the highest-
targeted cities in terms of terrorism,’
says Peregrym, 37. ‘But a lot of the
stuff that we’re dealing with is on a
scale that affects the whole country.
The stakes are higher.’
Peregrym played beat cop Andy
McNally in US show Rookie Blue,
and she says this new role felt like
a natural progression.
‘Weirdly enough, it’s pretty
seamless,’ she explains. ‘It’s like
