Every photographer has had this question atleast once in his or her mind. ‘Do I really
need an upgrade in my gear?’ How do you know when to upgrade? What are the
parameters when deciding on the same? Let’s discuss these and more.

Do you need an upgrade

Is your gear coming in the way of your creativity?
The primary reason for a photographer to upgrade is
when the camera, or its limitation, comes in the way of
their creativity. This can be extremely harmful when the
camera cannot keep up with what you expect from it. This
happens when the camera gets old and new technology
makes creative work possible. This happenned when the
photography industry shifted to digital from film. There
were a lot of creative opportunities that suddenly opened
up when photographers started to shift to digital cameras.
From instantly checking your result to printing and more.
With the camera industry changing every year, there was
a point when many photographers upgraded to a higher
megapixel camera so that they could get better quality
and larger prints. ISO sensitivity has improved significantly
year on year which has made shooting in low light easier.
Newer lenses with better optics have made images
crisper, with lesser distortions, less chromatic aberration
and so on. If you feel that your camera and what it can do,
holds you back, then maybe it is time you upgrade.
