the International Centre for Birds of Prey

wiTh over 50 years of experience the
International Centre for Birds of Prey (ICBP),
in Gloucestershire, is one of the world’s leading
centres for raptor breeding and conservation and
was the perfect place to plan our Apprentice shoot this month.
All the pictures taken by Ian and Guy were taken at the ICBP and if you also have an
interest in adding pictures of these magnificent birds to your portfolio, you’d be
hard-pressed to find a better venue in the UK. They run three flying displays daily, each
lasting about 45 minutes. There’s also the option of booking one of their experience
days, if you’d prefer to get even closer to birds such as owls, and hawks. http://www.icbp.org

Guy picks three of his favourite
bird of prey photographs

bArn owl
Taken in an English meadow in
Gloucestershire, Guy slowed his
shutter speed down to a quarter
of a second here, which was long
enough to get a beautiful flowing
movement in the blue wildflowers
around the barn owl.

greAt grey owl
GuY took this image of a wild
Great Grey Owl in Hampshire
during the summer of 2014. It’s
magnificent round dish-shaped
face makes for an arresting and
unique focal point.

shooTinG in the golden hour on
a winter evening, Guy managed to
backlight this owl by shooting
towards the sun and has created
this ace rim light around the tip of
this European eagle owl’s wings.
