f there’s one wildlife subject that will push your Canon kit and
camera skills to the limits, it’s fast-flying birds of prey. Our
Apprentice this issue was struggling with his focusing techniques
when trying to photograph birds, so we arranged for him to spend a
day with Canon pro photographer, Guy Edwardes, at the International
Bird of Prey Centre, to help improve his techniques, his Canon DSLR
and lenses setup. See page 8.
Inside this issue, we have an absolute myriad of content to help you
improve your technique and become a better Canon photographer...
In our main techniques guide we go in-depth into every type of lens and
the techniques you need to get the best out of them. From wide-angle
to telephoto zooms, standard to macro primes, and specialist lenses
like fisheyes and tilt-shifts, we’ll help you master them all, from page 30.
We speak to Dave Rogers, Canon pro and Head of Rugby at Getty,
ahead of the Rugby World Cup in Japan this September. He’s shot
every Rugby World Cup since 1987 and gives us an insight into the
world of a professional sports photographer and how he approaches
the big international games, see page 66.
In Canon Skills, we have some cool photo projects to try out, including
flash motion-blur portrait tips, how to shoot striking sunrise scenes,
capturing the moment a matchstick sparks into fire, and using a glass
lensball to inject some creativity into your landscape photos. Plus new
Adobe CC, Photoshop Elements and Affinity Photo tutorials. All come
with free videos. See page 47 onwards.
We also test the best fast wide-angle lenses for
astrophotography, page 91, and much more.
