JAPAN TO INVEST AROUND RS 13,000 CRORE IN VARIOUS
PROJECTS IN INDIA’S NORTH-EASTERN STATES
T
he government of Japan is in-
vesting Rs 13,000 crore in several
ongoing as well as new projects
in different states of India’s NE region.
This was disclosed after a meeting
which the DoNER Minister Dr Jitendra
Singh had with the Japanese delegation
led by Ambassador Kenji Hiramatsu.
Some of the projects in which Japan
will collaborate include Guwahati Wa-
ter Supply Project and Guwahati Sew-
age Project in Assam, Northeast Road
Network Connectivity Improvement
Project spread over Assam and Megha-
laya, Northeast Network Connectiv-
ity Improvement Project in Meghalaya,
Bio-diversity Conservation and Forest
Management Project in Sikkim, Sus-
tainable Forest Management Project in
Tripura, Technical Cooperation Project
for Sustainable Agriculture & Irrigation
in Mizoram, Forest Management Proj-
ect in Nagaland, etc.
Dr Jitendra Singh appreciated the
Japanese contribution to the develop-
ment of the North-Eastern region in the
last three to four years. He said, in the
times to come, new areas of collabora-
tion will also be sought to be worked
out, which could possibly include Bam-
boo-related collaboration. It was this
government which amended the 90-
year old “Indian Forest Act of 1919” to
bring the home-grown Bamboo out of
its purview, he added.
Japan will cooperate with India across several infrastructure projects.

nergy Efficiency Services organ-
ised a stakeholders’ workshop
along with KfW where senior
functionaries of key departments of
government of Maharashtra were ad-
dressed about deployment of grid-con-
nected solar rooftop solutions in up to
5,000 buildings across the state within
the next 2-3 years.
EESL is already retrofitting govern-
ment buildings in Maharashtra with
energy efficient appliances, investing
Rs 325 crore to enable them to achieve
39% savings in annual energy costs.
The solar rooftop solutions will signifi-
cantly reduce the lifetime energy costs
of these buildings, as they will avail
electricity at lower tariffs that will be de-
termined at levelised rates over the next
25 years.
Chandrakant Dada Patil, Minister of
Revenue, Relief & Rehabilitation and
Public Works, government of Maha-
rashtra, inaugurated the workshop,
which was graced by dignitaries like
Arvind Singh, principal secretary, energy
department, government of Maharash-
tra; Manoj Saunik, principal secretary,
PWD, GoM; Rajeev Sharma, chairman,
EESL; Sanjeev Kumar, MD; Ajit Sagne,
secretary (buildings) PWD, GoM; and,
Saurabh Kumar, MD, EESL.
EESL, govt of Maharashtra explore installing solar
rooftops in 5,000 energy efficient public buildings
