Open inactive apps

The Nexus 5X is larger than the Nexus 5

However, by switching to a different launcher you

can enhance its usability. Download and install

Nova Launcher from the Play store to start.

Change the homescreen

Switch an app off by tapping it. This will

make it inactive so it uses no more resources.

When you tap on an inactive app’s icon it will

relaunch instantly with no further input required.

Open the Nova Settings app and scroll

down to Gestures & inputs. Under the Gestures

section you can assign functions to specific

swipes – such as swiping down anywhere on the

homescreen to open the notifications pane.

From the homescreen pull down the

notification shade twice to reveal the Quick

Settings panel. Hold your finger on the Settings

wheel for a few seconds.

System UI Tuner

A message will appear saying that the

System UI Tuner has now been activated and

you’ll see a wrench icon alongside the cog. Tap

thisandthenscrolltothebottomofthescreen.

Make some tweaks

Open the new System UI Tweaks option

in Settings. From here you can make tweaks like

adding a percentage to the battery icon and

adjusting what icons appear in Quick Settings.
