CHAPTER 16: The Future of Android: The 64-Bit Android 5.0 OS 623

As you can see on the left in Figure 16-29, the Android Studio IDE was at 0.8.0 when I used the
Help ➤ About menu sequence. The Update Info dialog is shown in the middle of Figure 16-29, which
is what I got when I used the Help ➤ Check for Update menu sequence. On the right (shown here
in advance to save space) is the updated IDEA About screen showing the freshly updated 0.8.2
Android Studio, which is the ultimate goal for this section. Whether the update from 0.8.0 to 0.8.2
will be as smooth as you would expect is the primary issue at this point, because you are going to
be dealing with beta versions of Android 5.0 Studio for some time to come, and until all of the bugs
get ironed out of this aggressive new operating system incarnation, anything can happen! If anything
does go awry, I will show you the correct work process for solving unanticipated problems.

Once you click on the More Info button in the Android Studio Update Info dialog shown in the
center of Figure 16-29, you will be taken to the tools.android.com/recent site, which details recent
changes to the Android Studio beta. As you can see in Figure 16-30 on the left, Android Studio 0.8.2
has been released, which enables me to show you how an update is performed and how simple
(or difficult) it can be.
