MAKE BASTED UNITS

Designer Jody Sanders used the
English paper piecing technique
specified in these instructions to
make her pincushion.
The patterns are on Pattern
Sheet 2. You will need a paper
template for each piece of the
pincushion.

  1. On sturdy paper, use a pencil to
trace Pattern A seven times, Pattern
B 12 times, Pattern C six times, and
    Pattern D once.

  2. Carefully and accurately cut out
    paper templates on traced lines.

  3. Place a tone-on-tone 3 " square
wrong side up on a flat surface.
Using a glue pen, apply a small
dab of glue to middle of square.
Top with an A hexagon template
(Diagram 1). Cut out a fabric
    A hexagon, adding a^3 ⁄ 8 " seam
allowance to all edges. (Your seam
allowances do not have to be exact
because the paper template will be
    CUT FABRICS an accurate guide.)
Cut pieces in the following order.
    When cutting fabrics (Make Basted
    Units, Step 3), you will add a^3 ⁄ 8 " seam
    allowance.

From each dark gray, teal, blue, navy
blue, fuchsia, orange, and lime green
