ASSEMBLE AND


ADD INNER BORDER



  1. Sew together two solid white 2"
    squares and two assorted red print
    2" squares in pairs (Diagram 5). Join
    pairs to make a Four-Patch unit. The
    unit should be 3^1 ∕ 2 " square including
    seam allowances. Repeat to make
    80 Four-Patch units total.

  2. Mark a diagonal line on wrong side
    of each solid white 3^7 ∕ 8 " square.

  3. Layer a marked solid white square
    atop a red print 3^7 ∕ 8 " square. Sew
    together with two seams, stitching


(^1) ∕ 4 " on each side of marked line
(Diagram 6). Cut apart on marked
line. Press open to make two triangle-
squares. Each triangle-square
should be 3^1 ∕ 2 " square including
seam allowances. Repeat to make
80 triangle-squares total.



  1. Referring to Diagram 7, lay out two
    triangle-squares and two Four-Patch
    units. Sew together pieces in pairs. Join
    pairs to make a border unit. The unit
    should be 6^1 ∕ 2 " square including seam
    allowances. Repeat to make 40 border
    units total.


ASSEMBLE BLOCKS


Measurements include^1 ∕ 4 " seam
allowances. Sew with right sides
together unless otherwise stated.
Press seams in directions indicated
by arrows on diagrams. If no direction
is specified, press seam toward darker
fabric.



  1. Referring to Diagram 1, sew
    together a solid white small triangle
    and a red print small triangle. Add a
    solid white large triangle to make a
    triangle unit. The unit should be 3^1 ∕ 2 "
    square including seam allowances.
    Repeat to make 80 triangle units total.

  2. Referring to Diagram 2, sew
    together four triangle units in pairs.
    Join pairs to make a Pinwheel unit. The
    unit should be 6^1 ∕ 2 " square including
    seam allowances. Repeat to make 20
    Pinwheel units total.

  3. Use a pencil to mark a diagonal line
    on wrong side of each assorted red
    print 3^1 ∕ 2 " square.

  4. Align a marked red print square
    with one end of a solid white 3^1 ∕ 2 × 61 ∕ 2 "
    rectangle (Diagram 3; note direction
    of marked line). Sew on marked line.
    Trim seam allowance to^1 ∕ 4 "; press
    open attached triangle. Add a marked
    red print square to opposite end of
    rectangle to make a Flying Geese unit.


The unit should be 6^1 ∕ 2 × 31 ∕ 2 " including
seam allowances. Repeat to make
80 Flying Geese units total.


  1. Referring to Diagram 4, lay out
    four solid white 3^1 ∕ 2 " squares, four
    Flying Geese units, and a Pinwheel
    unit in three rows. Sew together pieces
    in rows. Join rows to make a block. The
    block should be 12^1 ∕ 2 " square including
    seam allowances. Repeat to make
    20 blocks total.


ASSEMBLE QUILT CENTER



  1. Referring to Quilt Assembly
    Diagram, lay out blocks in five rows,
    rotating every other block 90° so
    seams abut. Sew together blocks in
    rows. Press seams in one direction,
    alternating direction with each row.

  2. Join rows to make quilt center.
    Press seams in one direction. The quilt
    center should be 48^1 ∕ 2 × 601 ∕ 2 " including
    seam allowances.
