ASSEMBLE CORNER UNITS
Measurements include^1 ∕ 4 " seam
allowances. Sew with right sides
together unless otherwise stated.
Press seams in directions indicated
by arrows on diagrams. If no direction
is specified, press seam toward darker
fabric.
- Top a mottled light gray A piece
with a mottled dark gray B piece
(Diagram 1). Align center matching
points; pin. Pin matching points at
each end. Pin generously in between,
gently easing edges as needed to align
(Diagram 2). - Sew together pieces, removing each
pin just before the needle reaches it, to
make a corner unit (Diagram 3). The
unit should be 4^1 ∕ 2 " square including
seam allowances. Repeat to make 16
corner units total.
3. Using mottled light gray B pieces
and mottled dark gray A pieces, repeat
steps 1 and 2 to make 16 reversed
corner units (Diagram 4).
4. Combining remaining mottled
light gray A and B pieces with A and
B pieces in remaining colors, repeat
steps 1-3 to make 112 corner units total
and 112 reversed corner units total.
ASSEMBLE POINT UNITS
1. Referring to Diagram 5, sew
together a mottled teal C triangle
and a mottled beige D triangle. Add
a mottled teal C reversed triangle to
make a point unit. The unit should be
21 ∕ 2 × 41 ∕ 2 " including seam allowances.
- Using remaining C, C reversed, and
D triangles, repeat Step 1 to make 224
point units total.
ASSEMBLE CENTER UNITS
- Use a pencil to mark a diagonal line
on wrong side of each mottled light
gray 1^1 ∕ 2 " square. - Align a marked mottled light
gray square with one corner of a
mottled teal 2^1 ∕ 2 " square (Diagram 6;
note direction of marked line). Sew
on marked line. Trim excess fabric,
leaving a^1 ∕ 4 " seam allowance. Press
open attached triangle. Add a second
marked mottled light gray square
to opposite corner; trim and press
as before. In the same manner, add
marked mottled light gray squares to
remaining corners to make a center
unit. The unit should be 2^1 ∕ 2 " square
including seam allowances.
- Using remaining 2^1 ∕ 2 " squares,
repeat Step 2 to make 56 center units
total.
ASSEMBLE BLOCKS
- Gather two dark gray corner units,
two dark gray reversed corner units,
one teal center unit, and four teal point
units. - Referring to Diagram 7, lay out
units in three rows. Sew together units
in rows. Join rows to make a block. The
block should be 10^1 ∕ 2 " square including
seam allowances. - Referring to Quilt Assembly
Diagram for color pairings, repeat
steps 1 and 2 to make 56 blocks total.
