American Patchwork & Quilting - USA (2019-12)

(Antfer) #1

  1. Using cream thread, machine-
    blanket-stitch edges of each mitten
    appliqué. (For blanket-stitching tips,
    see page 96.) Machine-straight-stitch
across bottom of mitten appliqués to
mark cuffs (see photo, right). If desired,
    machine-embroider mitten appliqué
    cuffs with a decorative stitch.

QUILT TREE SKIRT

  1. Layer appliquéd tree skirt top,
    batting, and backing; baste.

  2. Quilt as desired. Designer Sherri K.
    Falls machine-quilted in the ditch
along the center unit seams and
stitched a line through the center of
    the outer border.

After making a
mitten cuff with
straight stitching,
use a decorative
machine stitch,
such as a snowflake
stitch, to embellish
the cuff.

FINISH TREE SKIRT

  1. Referring to Diagram 7, position
circle template in the middle of the
center unit; trace. Use a ruler to draw
a line from edge of traced circle to
edge of tree skirt through the center
    of unappliquéd triangle. Carefully cut
along line and around circle to create
    an opening.
