Use Google’s own Hangouts service to keep in
contact with friends and family

Chatting with
Google Hangouts
At its core, Google Hangouts
is a cross-platform messaging
service that allows you to
have text and video chats
with your friends and
contacts from your Galaxy
device (Fig 1). You can
send emoji and animated
GIFs, send and receive text
messages within the app,
and switch between SMS
and Hangouts. The app is
now available on iOS too.

Make a video call
With so many apps now
available from both the
Samsung App and Google
Play stores, there’s a real
plethora of video call apps available for download. The likes of
WhatsApp and Skype now have millions of users using their video
call functions on a daily basis completely free of charge and,
although Hangouts doesn’t yet have that amount of avid followers,
it does include a selection of cool features that can be applied to its
very own video call function.
Setting up a video call within Hangouts is easy enough; all that’s
required is for both you and your specifi ed contact to have a front
facing camera on each device (Fig 2). You also need to make sure
the contact has Google’s Hangouts app installed on their device, or
that they are signed in to the web service. After that, just tap on a
