More About Giraffes
Giraffes live in savanna areas in Africa and are the tallest
mammals in the world. Many people once thought
giraffes were a cross between a leopard and a camel.
However, its only known relative is the okapi, which looks
a little like a zebra.
Giraffes have a wacky way of cleaning their ears—
they use their very long tongues! Giraffes use
their tongues to reach acacia leaves high up in the
trees, but when they have an itch in their ear, their
tongues reach in and give it a wet wiggle. An adult
male giraffe’s tongue can be up to 21 inches
(53 centimeters) long.
