Bloodshot Eyes
Don’t get too close to a horned lizard. They have a
scary way of protecting themselves. If threatened,
horned lizards can shoot a stream of blood out
from their eyes. The blood can squirt up to five feet
(1.5 meters), causing confusion in their enemies.
The blood has no poison, but it tastes horrible.
More About Horned Lizards
Horned lizards live in the Southwestern United States.
They are sometimes called horny toads because their
flattened, round bodies make them look like toads. If in
danger, a horned lizard can also suck in air to expand
like a balloon. This makes the lizard look bigger and
scarier than it really is.
