Grizzly Gut
Squirrels bury nuts in the ground so they have
food for the winter. Grizzly bears store food as
well—in their stomachs. They eat up to 90 pounds
(40 kilograms) of food a day during the warmer
months, and they live off the extra fat while
hibernating in the winter. That’s a whole lot of
food to store!
More About Grizzlies
Known as the North American brown bear, grizzlies
are mostly found in Canada and Alaska. They eat nuts,
fruit, fungi, insects, fish, rodents, sheep, and elk. Female
grizzlies weigh up to 800 pounds (363 kilograms), and
males weigh up to 1,700 pounds (771 kilograms).
