VITAL STATS

●This one covers the same
bases as the Fenix 5
That flagship Fenix comes in three
sizes, all of which are absolutely
jam-packed with features. The
Forerunner 935 has all of those
gubbins, but manages to be a few
millimetres thinner and a good
Fun Size Mars Bar lighter. Why is
this important? If you’re a serious
sporter – say, a Strava-addicted
triathlete – then grammes count.

●Those features in full
Nope, we’re not going to list them
all. Garmin’s website has a handy

compare-o-tron. Suffice to
say that the 935 has GPS and
GLONASS tracking, support
for both ANT+ and Bluetooth
Smart accessories, and Wi-Fi.
It’ll drown you in data about your
activities, whether they’re on foot,
on a bike or in the water, and sync
all that stuff to the online Garmin
Connect portal. You can get it naked
for £470 (£30 less than the Fenix 5)
or you can have the Tri Bundle for
£590, which adds a yellow strap,
dry and wet heart-rate chest
straps and a quick-release kit
for your bike bars.

The 935 has all of the
features of Garmin's
recent Fenix 5, but in a
smaller, lighter and racier
form. On your marks...

●Rising from the Fenix
Let us bring you up to speed.
Garmin makes lots of fitness
watches. Anything with ‘Vivo’
in the name is more basic, from
which you can step up to the
super-sporty Forerunners. Fenix
is its premium smartwatch range...
though, notably, using its own OS
rather than Android Wear.

●It’ll do smart, but not that
kind of smart
In among all the sweat and tears,
the Forerunner will also deliver
message notifications from your
smartphone (probably from your
friends, begging you to ditch the
Spandex and go for a pint). But
while it can do that type of smart,
it can’t do boardroom smart as
convincingly as the more dapper
Fenix range. Neither does it have
the same ability to save GPS
waypoints, should a pootle about
the woods be more your thing than
an open-water swim.

you can easily
swap it out for
