You’ve never had it so
good when it comes
to picking your next
smartphone. While
Samsung took extra care not
to repeat its Note 7 nightmare,
the other big names have been
quick to fill the Galaxy-shaped
gap with attention-grabbing
phones of their own. Huawei
has done it with dual-camera
cleverness, LG has banished the
bezels and even Apple has added
a splash of colour to the iPhone.
Add the always excellent value
of OnePlus to the mix, along with
Google’s photography-focused
Pixel, and Samsung is facing some
stiff competition.
But everyone loves a comeback
story – Elvis, Seabiscuit, the
Mighty Ducks – and now the
Galaxy S8 has arrived, with a
head-turning design and some
of the best specs you’ll find in a
smartphone. It’s time to find out
if Samsung can fight its way back
to the top of the list.
You’ll notice that five of the six
phones on test earn a five-star
rating – they’re really that good.
But only one can be king...

le Pixel XL
Google’s first attempt
at a phone of its own
(not counting Nexus)
has the purest form of
Android and a seriously
impressive snapper.
2 Apple iPhone 7 Plus
Product Red
Everything you know
and love about Apple’s
biggest, baddest
iPhone... only now it
comes dressed in red.
5 OnePlus 3T
The self-proclaimed
‘flagship killer’ was the
bargain of 2016 – but
the T model will need
to do something special
to stand out in 2017.
3 Huawei P10 Plus
The bigger of Huawei’s
two new flagships has
a twin-camera combo
and loads of storage for
all the magnificent pics
it’ll help you take.
6 LG G6
LG goes back to basics
with the non-modular
G6, but still finds room
for some dual-camera
cleverness and a
super-wide 18:9 screen.
