Oppo UDP-203

£650 / oppodigital.com

What is it?
If you’re going to make the most of your
ridiculous Wallpaper OLED, then you’ll
need to watch your 4K movies on discs.
Streaming just doesn’t offer the same
level of fidelity, even if you’ve got whizzy
fast broadband at home. With Ultra HD
films costing upwards of £25 a pop, you’ll
want to make sure you own a decent
player to enjoy them on – and Oppo’s
UDP-203 is our favourite.

Is it any good?
A superior machine to even last year’s
Panasonic DMP-UB900, this Oppo
serves up oodles of pictorial detail and
pin-sharp sound. Watching Life of Pi is
almost as jaw-dropping an experience
as it was on the big screen. Every frame
is etched out with superb clarity and
subtlety. You’ll really feel that you’re
getting enough bang for your OLED
buck with this player.

Tech specs
Max resolution 4K with HDR, lossless
hi-res audio Formats supported 4K and
standard Blu-ray, 3D, DVD, DVD-A, SACD,
CD Dimensions 430x311x79mm, 4.3kg

ATC C1 5.1

£3250 / atcloudspeakers.co.uk

What is it?
The LG W7’s built-in soundbar is all very
well, but for the kind of audio that can
match its televisual smarts you’ll need
to invest in a speaker package. Unless
you’ve got an auditorium to fill at home,
this dapper set of four speakers and
a subwoofer will do a dazzling job. Beware
that you’ll need to buy stands for them
separately, which pushes their heady
price up even further.

Is it any good?
This package is absolutely exceptional.
Your movie nights will be blessed with
expert dynamics, balanced tones and
the kind of sound effects that’ll have you
gripping your armrests with delight. The
bad news? You’re gonna get an awful lot
of mates inviting themselves round to see
the latest Marvel extravaganza. Seriously,
you can feel the subwoofer’s rumbles
across the soles of your feet.

Tech specs
Speakers SCM7 (with 12.5cm driver and
25mm tweeter) x4, C1C centre (with two
12.5cm drivers and 25mm tweeter), C1 Sub
(with 31cm down-firing driver, 200W amp)

Yamaha RX-A3060

£1999 / uk.yamaha.com

What is it?
You’re going to need an amp worthy of
plugging those unpowered ATC speakers
into, and this nine-channel Yamaha is
our pick of the bunch. Whether you’re
watching the footie or a sci-fi epic, you
can tweak this weighty box to transport
you well away from your humble home.
And with support for Dolby Atmos, Wi-Fi
and Bluetooth, it’ll handle whatever audio
sources you throw its way.

Is it any good?
Cheaper options such as the Denon
AVR-X3300W and Yamaha’s own
RX-A1060 will do a decent job for much
less cash, but this amp reigns supreme
among the top end. Turn on its Pure Audio
mode and you’re treated to clearer, more
detailed and even more dynamic sound.
Thanks to its dynamism and control,
even the most chaotic blockbuster’s
cacophonics are perfectly balanced.

Tech specs
Sound formats DTS:X, Dolby Atmos,
virtual surround Audio channels 11.2
Inputs HDMI x8, analogue audio x8
Dimensions 192x435x474mm, 19.6kg
