Film The Autopsy
of Jane Doe
Film4, 11.20pm
Brian Cox plays a
coroner in small-town
America who takes
delivery of a mysterious
female corpse. There
are no outward signs
of skulduggery but,
as he breaks out the
scalpels and saws, he
finds grisly secrets
within... (15, 2016)

story with clarity and
a knack for eye-
catching detail, such as
the trees that now grow
through the ceilings
of disused flats in the
town that once housed
the workers. The smart
contextualising and
minute-by-minute
storytelling (plus
updates from the
present Ukraine
conflict) feel fresh
and chilling.

The Chernobyl
Disaster
Channel 5, 9pm
There have been
two significant
documentaries on the
1986 catastrophe
already in recent
weeks, but this
three-parter narrated
by Ben Fogle is still
worth watching. It’s
an exhaustive
examination, telling the

and fondness for eye-
catching reconstruction
make this a diverting
watch. Her focus on
one hapless victim of
male judicial murder
(a faith healer and
midwife called Agnes
Sampson) is effective
and affecting.
Sampson’s trial,
Worsley notes, lit the
flames (literally) for
similar outrages over
the next 100 years.

Lucy Worsley
Investigates
BBC2, 9pm
This new series has the
historian on the hunt
for answers to Britain’s
great mysteries. No, not
why she wins so many
TV commissions, but
events further back in
time, starting with the
16th and 17th-century
witch-hunting craze.
Worsley’s enthusiasm

Bake Off: The
Professionals
Channel 4, 8pm
It’s Bake Off proper, as
some fans would like to
regard it, but without
the presenter Tom
Allen, who has been
replaced (for reasons I
can’t quite understand)
by Stacey Solomon as
Liam Charles’s co-host.
The pair do all the
stilted bantering, but

the real joy of this
series is the
extraordinary skill of
the pros — and of
course the moments
when it all goes wrong
and their towering
showpiece sculptures
crash to the floor.
Six teams from
establishments in
Manchester,
Cumbria, Wiltshire,
Birmingham and
London do battle.
