Recipe:

1 Coleus ‘Fishnet Stockings’

2 purple false shamrocks

(Oxalis triangularis subsp.

papilionacea ‘Triangularis’)

1 small fuchsia stem to hang

over the edge (Fuchsia spp.)

Design tip: Keep the coleus

just off center toward the back

of the pot, then plant the false

shamrocks in front of it. The

fuchsia should dangle down on

the opposite side of the coleus to

bring balance to the design.

This black urn is host to only

three plants. But, the combination

creates a striking eect. The urn

is designed in a flat-backed style

because it’s only meant to be

viewed from one side.

2 Euphorbia ‘Diamond Frost’® (Euphorbia hybrid)

2 dark purple African daisy (Osteospermum

‘Asti Purple’™)

1 lavender African daisy (Osteospermum

‘Asti Purple Bicolor’™)

1 coleus (Solenostemon scutellarioides ‘Dark Star’)

2 licorice plants (Helichrysum petiolare)

1 Bluebird nemesia (Nemesia fruticans ‘Hubbird’)

2 Supertunias® (Petunia hybrid ‘Vista Silverberry’)

This lovely window box has a light, frothy appearance. Choosing plants with smaller flowers and slender stems

keeps the design from becoming too visually heavy.

Design tip: When designing window boxes or other

hanging planters, keep the light colors toward the

front and the darker colors toward the back. It helps

balance the design and stop it from looking too bulky.
