tobea “neutral”versionoftheprismaticpaletteandthe
prismaticpalettea “bright”versionoftheearthpalette.
Eachprismaticcolourhasitsearthpaletteanalogueand
viceversa– CadmiumOrangehasa relationshiptoBurnt
Sienna,forexample,whileChromiumOxideGreenis
comparativetoCadmiumGreen.Similarrelationships
canbedrawnbetweenmostcoloursonthetwosides
ofthebroaderpaletteofcolours.
Earthcolourshavealsotraditionallybeenusedtosoften
orneutralisehighlychromaticcolourslikethecadmiums
