Vascular Plants of Monteverde

This list includes plants of the Monteverde area occurring
above 700 m elevation on both slopes. Groups are listed in
the order Dicotyledons, Monocotyledons, Gymnosperms,
Ferns and fern allies. Column codes are defined at the end
of the list. Representative collection numbers listed in pa-
rentheses are Haber collections except where the collector's
last name is noted. The designation of pollinators, seed dis-
persers, and sexual system is based on observations of the

author and colleagues over many years, supplemented by

inferences from morphology and specific citations in the lit-

erature, including Flora of Costa Rica, (Standley 1937) Flora

of Panama (Woodson and Schery 1943-1980), Croat (1978),

Cronquist (1981), Dinerstein (1986), Haber and Bawa

(1984), Kress and Beach (1994), and Mabberley (1987).

The nomenclature follows recent treatments in the

Manual of Costa Rican Plants project (see Chap. 3, p. 39).
