HOW TO BUILD THE KITE
- On a piece of paper, draw the
outline and pattern of a butterfly’s
wings and body. Use markers to
make a bright and colorful wing
pattern. If you use tissue paper, the
color will appear on both sides. - Lay a piece of string, about
20 in (50 cm) long, loosely
across the wings. Then place
two straws over the string and
tape them down at the tips so
that they form an X. Tie the
string firmly around the straws
and make a knot.
2. Carefully cut out the wings
(keeping them joined in the
middle) and the body. Then glue
the body to the middle of the
wings and glue the antennae
to the head.
Cut two
pieces of string
about 1 in (3 cm) long
to make the antennae.
Make the wings
about 6 in (15 cm)
tall with a 6 in
(15 cm) wingspan.
The body should
be 3 in (8 cm) tall.
Now you’re ready to fly the
kite. Just hold onto the string
and run—the butterfly kite will
flutter around behind you!
