John S. Wilkins earned his PhD at the University of Melbourne, Australia. He has
researched and taught at the University of Queensland, the University of Sydney, the
University of New South Wales, and the University of Melbourne. He is the author of
Species: A History of the Idea (University of California Press, Berkeley, 2009, the first
edition of this book), Defining Species (Peter Lang, New York, 2009), The Nature
of Classification (Palgrave Macmillan, London, 2013, with Malte C. Ebach), and
the editor of Intelligent Design and Religion as a Natural Phenomenon (Ashgate,
Burlington, Vermont, 2010). He is the author or coauthor of 28 papers and 12 book
chapters. Dr. Wilkins is currently an Honorary Fellow at the University of Melbourne
School of Historical and Philosophical Studies, where he lectures.
