- Nimrod - from success to cancellation
The Nimrod MR1s and MR2s patrolled the sea and the sky
for 41 years and played an active role in several conflicts.
Regrettably two later developments; the AEW3 and the
MRA4 were both axed so now no Nimrods grace the skies. - Jaguar - Anglo-French strike trainer
British and French Jaguar operations have ceased but 48
years after its maiden flight, the quality of the design is
self-evident as it plays a continuing and important role with
the Indian Air force - The Multi-Role Tornado
Tornado enabled BAC/BAe to utilise its variable-geometry
experience and to produce a fine design in collaboration
with others. It is a potent war machine which has been
employed by the RAF in many offensive operations. - Hawk – 40 years of refinement
As the last remaining wholly British military aircraft, still in
production and continuing to be developed, it is gratifying
that the Hawk has proved such a success, both at home and
overseas.
104. EAP to Eurofighter Typhoon
Typhoon is a multi-role, swing-role aircraft with 13
hardpoints for weapons and fuel to enable it to carry out
its missions. It is the largest European collaborative
military programme and 500 aircraft have already flown.
122. Multi-National F-
The F-35 is a huge international military aircraft
programme and it is estimated that over 3,000 will be
produced. Lockheed Martin is the main contractor and
BAE SYSTEMS also plays a major role in the project.
126. BAE SYSTEMS goes UAV
BAE has invested heavily in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. The
development programme has led from comparatively
simple prototypes to the Hawk-sized, stealthly Taranis.
The Aircraft of British Aerospace and BAE SYSTEMS 1977 - 2017 5
The first Typhoon and the first Hawk for Oman were rolled out at
Warton on 4 May 2017. They are temporarily registered ZR411 and
ZB123 respectively. Oman ordered 12 Typhoons and eight Hawks in
December 2012. (BAE SYSTEMS)
