Superjet Latest
Brussels Airlines has concluded a deal
to lease three Sukhoi Superjet 100s from
Dublin-based CityJet. According to Swiss
airline intelligence provider ch-aviation, the
Belgian  ag carrier will take delivery of the
regional jets this spring a nd the jets will be
used to replace three BAE Systems Avro
RJ100s that are due to be phased out of
service.
Meanwhile, Russian aviation authorities

grounded the entire  eet of Sukhoi
Superjet 100s in late December when a
fault was discovered in the tail stabiliser of
an aircraft  own by Russian carrier IrAero.
As a precaution, all users were asked to
carry out inspections, and during these, 11
aircraft operated by Mexican carrier Interjet
were found to have the same problem. The
manufacturer said all the aircraft would be
back in service by the end of January.

New Tecnam Sierra MkII


Italy’s Costruzioni Aeronautiche Tecnam has
announced the new Tecnam P2002 Sierra
MkII two-seat trainer and personal aircraft.
This is a substantially redesigned version
of the original Sierra ultralight and, with
a gross weight of 1,323lb (600kg) it falls
above the existing European ultralight limit.
As such it is designed speci cally for the

American market and has a redesigned
cabin section with a larger and higher sliding
canopy.
The cockpit is equipped with the
Garmin G3X dual touch-screen integrated
avionics system and the engine cowling
has also been redesigned to help improve

Aviation pioneer AMY JOHNSON has been
announced as Norwegian’s latest British tail
 n hero. A portrait of the renowned pilot is
set to appear on two Norwegian aircraft later
this year. Norwegian has always honoured
iconic  gures on the tails of its aircraft, and
already has more than 80 tail  n heroes. To
re ect the airline’s rapid growth in the UK it
has begun a series of British themed tail art.
Siberian carrier S7 AIRLINES has concluded
a deal to acquire 17 Embraer E170s. The
agreement, announced on December 22,
came just weeks after the Brazilian-built jet
secured type certi cation from the Russian
authorities, and makes the Novosibirsk-
based carrier the  rst in the country to
operate the aircraft. The jets are all pre-
owned and are being acquired on lease from
GE Capital Aviation Services.
SYRIAN AIR is acquiring Airbus A340-
4R-ADG from Iranian carrier Mahan Air,
reports Swiss airline intelligence provider ch-
aviation. The aircraft will be used on  ights
from Damascus to South America and China.
China Airlines has launched AIRBUS A350-
900 intercontinental services using its  rst
two examples. The maiden A350 service
touched down in Amsterdam on January
9, while the second jet operated the Taipei,
Taiwan to Vienna, Austria rotation the
following day.
Tunisian-based EXPRESS AIR CARGO has
taken delivery of its  rst aircraft, Boeing
737-330QC TS-ICA. The airline plans to
take delivery of a second example, TS-ICB,
shortly.
US fractional aircraft ownership  rm
PlaneSense will be the launch operator for
the PILATUS PC-24, with delivery of the  rst
jet scheduled in the fourth quarter of this
year. The New Hampshire-based company,
which operates 35 PC-12s, has an order for
six of the new twinjets.

Further Delays


for MRJ
The Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation has
revealed that the  rst customer delivery of
the Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ) will be
delayed a further two years.
The company is blaming revisions
to certain systems and electrical
con gurations are necessary to meet the
latest certi cation requirements.
The concept for the jet was unveiled in
2007 and the  rst example  ew in November


  1. The planned mid-2018 in-service date
    will now take place in mid-2020.


The fourth Star Wars themed jet in the All Nippon Airways  eet will make its inaugural  ight
on March 21. The Boeing 777-200 will be painted in a livery based on the C-3PO character,
with the branding carried through internally with specially designed paper cups and headrest
covers, while cabin attendants will wear themed aprons. The jet is scheduled to  y on various
Japanese domestic routes. ANA
