This month’s cover shows a Working on

Fire ‘Huey’ flying through the smoke with

a Bambi bucket to battle the Cape fires.

The first week in March saw the worst

fires on the Cape Peninsula in over a

decade. Over 5,000 hectares were left

devastated, and Hendrik ‘Bees’ Marais,

who flew tirelessly for Working on Fire,

tragically lost his life in the efforts to

contain the blaze. A dramatic photo-

essay on the fires is on page 78. Photo
