RELOCATION

Catalina by sea from
Biggin Hill

The PBY-5A Catalina at Biggin Hill before it was dismantled for
its journey to the USA.
On January 19 the PBY-5A Catalina was loaded
on to the roll-on, roll-off ferry due to cross from
Southampton via Le Havre to Jacksonville,
Florida, USA a month later.
During December a team from Edwards Brorthers
Aviation prepared the 72-year old amphibian for the
sea crossing at Biggin Hill. Once in Florida, the
aircraft will be moved to Fort Pierce, where the
re-build will continue. Its Britishowner intends to
complete the PBY inn an RAF Coastal Command
scheme of the WW2 period.

SEFa reproduction aircraft will be in the UK from
spring 2015. The first is from Oklahoma-based
Jack Kearbey’s collection as flown at Oshkosh
in 2010. It has been purchased by German
collector, Oliver Wulff. It is being assembled at
Old Warden prior to the start of the season.

The second SE5a is now registered to Roy Palmer,
and was formerly operated by the Memorial Flight
from La Ferte Alais, France. It is currently being
prepared for a return to the air in a workshop in
southern Hampshire UK.

Will Greenwood, the Sussex-based display pilot
has purchased the Yakovlev Yak-3M replica from
MaxAlpha Aviation, Bremgarten, Germany.
It is scheduled to make its UK debut at the
Abingdon Air and Country Show on May 3.

has undergone a comprehensive 20-year re-build

Naval History and Heritage Command (NHHC)
Archaeologist Dr. George Schwarz was joined
by more than 45 volunteers from nearly a dozen
organizations wading through dense vegetation
and sifting through Florida sand between
Feb 18-20 in the hopes of finding more clues to
a Navy aircraft crash that happened more than
seven decades ago.

More than 45 volunteers converged on a property
in Osteen, Fla., to help assess, evaluate, and
document artifacts from a World War II Navy aircraft
discovered on a local property. Orange flags
designate areas of interest found by members of
the Central Florida Metal Detecting Club.

models to be displayed at Cosford

After a busy February Half Term week at the
Royal Air Force Museum Cosford, which has
seen over 1,000 children take part in a model
making activity, families with a new found interest
in the hobby can explore it further at the
Shropshire Scale Model Show, taking place on
Sunday 12 April.
This annual event which attracts over 4,000 visitors
each year will take place nestled amongst the
world-class collection of aircraft and military vehicles
on display at the Museum. Thousands of intricately
detailed models of aircraft, cars, bikes, trucks and
science fiction items will be spread across the whole
site, filling the Museum hangars with a world of
model making. With over 100 modelling clubs
signed up to exhibit their creations, many of which
have taken years to perfect, this year’s event is set
to be bigger than ever.

Everything any dedicated modeller could ever want
or need, will be on sale during the one day show.
Over 40 traders, will be selling a range of modelling
materials and kits to suit modellers of all ability’s,
from young children who are just discovering their
passion for modelling, right through to the avid
modellers who have been building kits for many
years. There will be everything from plastic kits in
various sizes along with glues, paints and other
detailed sets available to purchase on the day.

New Dutch Museum is popular

The new 35,000 square metre Dutch Nationaal
Militair Museum had 77,000 visitors in the month
following its public opening on December 13 at
Soesterberg in central Holland.
The new museum has merged the two collections
of the Army Museum, previously at Delft and the old
Air Force Museum at Soesterberg.
