Swedish museum restores Percival Pembroke
The Flygvapenmuseum (Swedish
Air Force Museum) at Malmen,
Linköping, is continuing with its
restoration of a Percival C.
Pembroke which fl ew with the SwAF
as Tp 83 83008.
The aircraft, which is being returned
to static display condition, was
delivered to Sweden in June 1956 and
served for 20 years, making its last
fl ight on November 12, 1976. It was one
of 18 Pembrokes in service with the
SwAF, and spent most of its military
‘career’ with the F 11 Wing based at
Nyköping, where it was used to train
navigators destined to fl y in Saab
Lansens.
The Pembroke was subsequently
donated to the Flygvapenmuseum and
has spent the intervening years either
in storage or on external display. The
latter has inevitably taken a toll on the
machine’s condition, and as well as
restoring its appearance the current
work will also include the re-installing
of the Pembroke’s PS-43 radar
equipment. The aircraft will eventually
be returned to the colours and
markings it wore with F 11 Wing, coded

Following the transfer of several of the Museum of Flight’s larger exhibits to a new ‘airpark’
adjacent to the entrance of the Seattle-based attraction, photographers had a rare chance
to capture an uncluttered view of recently restored Boeing 747 RA001 ‘City of Everett’. Work
on the airliner was completed last summer – due to its size and the lack of hangar space,
all paintwork had to be done outside. http://www.museumoffl ight.org JOE G WALKER

Cornish Sea King

Westland Sea King HAS.6 XV663 left the National Maritime Museum Cornwall in Falmouth on
February 12 after a three-year stay. The helicopter is due to be put on display at RNAS Yeovilton
later this year. The exhibit is painted in Royal Navy colours on its port side, with a yellow RAF
scheme on the other. The 1970-built machine had been on loan to the Cornish attraction.
