14 African Pilot April 2015

Paramount Group has identifi ed a location in South Africa that will allow
the company to develop a bespoke state-of-the-art manufacturing facility.
Planning for the development of the site is in advanced stages. The design
will ensure that the factory will adhere to very high environmental standards
making it one of the greenest manufacturing sites in South Africa. The
construction of the Advanced Demonstrator (ADM) which is being built to
the same standards as a full production aircraft is making excellent progress
and once completed will be used as a development platform for AHRLAC’s
mission and weapons systems. As a result of the process the aircraft has now
been full industrialised and can go into production incorporating customer
specifi c requirements within 14 months.

Key components of the ADM have been completed including advanced
mission equipment and the integration of Martin Baker’s new MK 17 ejection
seats. The aircraft addresses a key industry need by performing the combined
tasks that previously required four separately confi gured aircraft. It integrates
designs from surveillance platforms and reconnaissance aircraft with the
ability to carry surveillance, weapons, radar and electronic warfare systems.
This has brought advanced operational solutions, historically requiring more
costly aircraft or complex unmanned aerial surveillance systems.

The aircraft was designed and built by a team of 60 engineers and
technicians. One of the most innovative aspects of the construction phase
is that 98% of all 6 000 parts of the airframe were designed and produced
locally by the engineering team. Since the launch of the project in September
2011, the team spent 315 000 labour hours completing detailed designs and
manufacturing the fi rst prototype.

EMBRAER’S PHENOM 300 IS THE MOST DELIVERED BUSINESS JET

According to a report by the General Aviation Manufacturers Association
(GAMA) Embraer Executive Jets delivered 73 Phenom 300 in 2014, making
it the most delivered business jet in the world. Deliveries of this aircraft
reached a total of 60 in 2013, also the largest quantity for that year.

“We are very grateful for our customers’ preference for the Phenom 300,
a truly revolutionary aircraft, designed with extensive customer input and
feedback,” said Marco Túlio Pellegrini, President and CEO, Embraer
Executive Jets. “This achievement further reaffi rms our commitment to
deliver the highest level of customer support and services.”

In just fi ve years of operation, the Phenom 300 fl eet has reached the 250
aircraft mark, having accrued a 57% market share in the light jet category.
The aircraft is in operation in more than 20 countries and has accumulated
close to 200,000 fl ight hours. The Phenom 300 is one of the fastest
light jets, having recently established a National Aeronautic Association
(NAA) cross-country speed record in the United States, from Bellingham,
Washington, to Albany, New York.

THE AUTHENTIC FLIGHT CAPTAIN’S WATCH
A chronometer-certifi ed chronograph to measure
fl ight times, a second time zone display in
24-hour mode to juggle time differences around
the planet, a scratch-resistant high-tech black
ceramic bezel: the new Chronoliner reinterprets
the spirit of aviation in an original and timeless
style. Across more than half a century, aviation
has enjoyed spectacular progress. Planes’
performances have reached dizzying heights.
The instrument panels featuring pointer type
counters and manual controls of the Super
Constellation aircraft and the fi rst jets have given way to computer screens and
electronic joysticks. But two things have remained unchanged: fl ight captains
still wear the same prestigious uniform; and a Breitling chronograph continues
to sit proudly on their wrist.

Inspired by a model from the 1950s and 60s, an era when Breitling was
already an ‘offi cial supplier to world aviation’, the new Chronoliner continues
this tradition in a resolutely modern spirit. Its most distinctive feature is a
broad bezel in scratch-resistant high-tech ceramic – one of the hardest
synthetic materials – with a star-shaped cut-out to facilitate handling, along
with white ceramic numerals ensuring an optimal contrast. The second
time zone is clearly and simply read off thanks to the red-tipped hand
and this rotating bezel with its graduated 24-hour scale, equipped with an
ultraprecise ratcheted system. Just the ticket for a long-haul fl ight anywhere
in the world.

The performances of the chronograph, which is offi cially
chronometer-certifi ed by the COSC (Swiss Offi cial Chronometer Testing
Institute) like all Breitling movements, are displayed on counters at 12, 9
and 6 o’clock. The dial is distinguished by a degree of legibility worthy of
the fi nest fl ight instruments, with white luminescent hour-markers standing
out against a black background, oversized hour/minute hands, along with
counter hands also featuring a luminescent coating. The robust polished
steel case with its 46 mm diameter radiates a strong presence on the wrist
of professionals. The case back bears the stylized planes that were a long
time Breitling signature. The original and timeless touch is complemented by
a comfortable and distinctive steel mesh bracelet. The new Chronoliner: the
authentic fl ight captain’s watch.

Movement: Breitling Calibre 24, officially chronometer-certified by
the COSC, self-winding, high-frequency (28,800 vibrations per hour),
25 jewels. 1/4th second chronograph, 30-minute and 12-hour totalizers.
2nd time zone in 24-hour mode on the dial, 3rd time zone on the bezel.
Calendar. Case: steel with ceramic bezel. Water resistant to 100 m
(330 feet). Bidirectional rotating bezel. Cambered sapphire crystal,
glare proofed on both sides. Diameter: 46 mm. Dial: black. Bracelets:
Ocean Classic (steel mesh) or Navitimer.
