Cessna C208 Caravan by Dawie Nel
The photograph was taken at the Roodewal
Bombing Range’s dirt runway outside Polokwane,
Limpopo. The aircraft, a Cessna C208 Caravan is
flown by the South African Air Force’s 41 Squadron.
The setting sun on the horizon and the dust helped
to create a rather dramatic photograph and I was in
the perfect position to capture this.The photograph was taken with a Nikon D
camera with an older model Sigma 50 to 500mm
lens. I used this combination to illustrate to my
colleagues that you don’t always need the top of
the range equipment to capture the perfect picture.
I used shutter priority, with the shutter set to 1/800.
The high speed is due to the lack of stability control
in the lens.
