in honour of the unit’s 50th anniversary celebrations. In 1996 and 1998 she
participated in two President’s Trophy Air Races. Finally, after accumulating 7 350
fl ying hours, number 748 was retired and placed in storage after her last service fl ight
on 13 October 2006. Five years later, she was assigned to the SAAF Museum, which
used her primarily as a static exhibit, until a decision was made last year to restore
her to fl ying condition. On 27 February, Colonels Steve Odendaal and Darrel Wright
successfully completed number 748’s fi rst test fl ight since her restoration. According
to the museum’s commanding offi cer Lt. Col. Mike O’ Conner, aviation enthusiasts will
soon be able to see the museum’s Douglas DC-3 and Tiger Moth in fl ight as well.
