48 African Pilot April 2015

Throughout its lifespan, 43 Air School has been a dedicated fl ying training
organisation, catering for the private, general commercial, airline and military
sectors. The Aviation Training Organisation (ATO) has extensive experience in
training self-sponsored and corporate sponsored pilots from different cultural
backgrounds and from various countries around the world. From its simple
beginnings in 1942, 43 Air School has established a reputation within the South
African aviation industry for providing a high standard of fl ying training service.

PORT ALFRED CAMPUS

The campus is situated at the airport and provides a secure and productive
learning environment. 43 Air School offers a complete residential service
that caters for various cultures. On site amenities include a cafeteria,
a gymnasium, tennis and volley ball courts, a swimming pool and an
entertainment centre. The area provides numerous recreational and social
activities, without the distractions of larger cities.

43 Air School’s success is the result of having a relevant and achievable
philosophy, sophisticated training programmes to translate that philosophy
into tangible results and effective management systems to provide
quality control. The school’s philosophy is to provide genuine operational
capability in teaching students the required discipline including effective
and adaptable procedures, an applied operational knowledge, and good
confi dent command skills. All these are taught and then practised through
planned exposure to various conditions and situations. 43 Air School has
identifi ed specifi c objectives for all these aspects and designed step by
step and logically structured programmes that achieve them. Theory and
practical training are integrated throughout, whilst every dual and solo

hour is used strategically for maximum productivity. 43 Air School does not
allow unstructured ‘hour building.’

Management programmes monitor the performance of both the student
and full time staff members of the school in order to identify problems
whilst ensuring corrective action. In addition to the chief fl ight and ground
instructors, the school has four fl ight instructors monitoring standards where
their sole purpose is to perform continuous quality control. All training
courses are approved by the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SA
CAA). Graduates can be found as captains and fi rst offi cers at many of the
world’s top airlines, government organisations, charter, corporate and freight
companies. In addition to the many self-sponsored clients, the following
are some of the more prominent organisations that have entrusted 43 Air
School with the training of their pilots: South African Airways, Kenya Airways,
Tanzania Defence Force, Air Mauritius, Air Seychelles, TAAG Angola
Airlines, Vietnam Navy, ANHRD Seychelles, Cathay Pacifi c, Djibouti Air
Force, LAM Mozambique Airlines, Namibian DCA, Vietnam Airlines, VietJet
and Tanzanian CAA.

43 Air School is extending into new and emerging aviation markets, having
recently received accreditation from the Vietnamese CAA. “This truly confi rms
the statement about 43 Air School having International quality and standards
of training” – said Trevor Myburgh, director of sales and marketing.
