Doloreswasasingularandexceptional
woman,whosecharacteristicwit charmed
all thosewho knewher.Her sarcasticquips
wereequallybestowedon everyonearound
her –fromher closestfriendsand family
to the clerkat her localgrocerystore.Her
sharpmindpersevereduntilthe veryend.
Doloreswasanatural saleswoman;she
workedinhermother’sshopinBrighton
Beach,NewYork as ayoungwoman,found
easysuccessatvarioushigh-endretailers
includingI.MagninandLily Rubinduring
her career,and laterbecameamainstayat
her daughter’sstore in GreatFalls,Virginia.
Her truepassionwasraisingher children
and grandchildrenwhomshe fiercelyloved
(despitesarcasticquipsto the contrary). Do-
loresand her husbandMelvinmet at Hofstra
University;Doloresattendingas the first col-
legiatewomanin her family,Melvinreturn-
ing fromservicein WWII.Throughouttheir
62-yearmarriagetheylivedinNewJersey

and Maryland,followingMelvin’scareerin
telecommunicationsand buildingand shar-
ing theirlives.Doloresand Melvin’shome
in Bethesda,Marylandwheretheylivedfor
44 yearshad agravitationalpull, knownfor
largegatheringsof familyand friendsat hol-
idays.Doloreslovedto travel;she and Mel-
vinwenttomanyfar-flungdestinationsfor
workand pleasure,and eventuallytook their
childrenandgrandchildrenbacktotheirfa-
voriteplaces–London,Italy,SantaFe,the
Caribbean,andmostofall,totheirhome
in MountDesert,Maine,wheretheirfami-
ly spentjoyfuland memorablesummers
together.Doloreswasaborn storyteller,
who sharedher life,experiences,and advice
with her children,grandchildren,family,and
friends.She will be sorelymissedby all of
thosewho knew,loved,and reveredher.

awayin 2012in MountDesert,Maine.
Doloresis survivedby her four daughters,
JoanBarmat,AlisonBarmat,BetsyStires
and husbandMark,and HopeHill and hus-
bandPeter;sevengrandchildren,Samantha
Altmannand husbandEben,MeredithStein-
fels and husbandTrevor,EthanSteinfelsand
wife Monisha,NathanStiresand wife Caro-

NicholasHill; and four great-grandchildren,

in Brooklyn,New York, takingthe

stoopballand rootingfor the BrooklynDodg-
ers and his favoriteplayers,Duke Sniderand
Roy Campanella.
He neverforgavethe Dodgersfor leaving
Brooklyn.AftergraduatingfromGeorgia
Tech withaBSinEngineeringand getting

his MBAwithdistinctionfromthe Harvard
BusinessSchool,he metthelove of his
life,Barbara, and marriedher in 1962.He
workedin mortgagebanking,thenreal es-
tateasapropertydeveloperandowner,
settlingin suburbanMarylandin the 1970s.
Hehadalifelongpassionforcollecting—and
was deeplyinvolvedin the JamesRenwick
AllianceCraft in supportof Americancon-
temporary craft. In contrast to his Brooklyn
roots,helovedthe AmericanWest and cut
alarger-than-lifefigurein his dailyattire.He
enjoyedwearingacowboyhat and boots,
accentedby colorfulsweaters.Hewas
generousto afault and woulddo anything
for his childrenand grandchildren,whoal-
waysbroughtasmile to his face,despitehis
curmudgeonlymottoinlateryears,“Every-
thing’saggravation.”
Hewaspredeceasedbyhisparents,Rose
and Gerald, and his youngerbrotherSte-
phen.Heissurvivedbyhiswifeof 59 years,
BarbaraBerlin,his childrenJustin,Kevin,
and Noah(Laura) Berlinand Danielle(Loren-
zo) Gori-Montanelli,andgrandchildrenCal-
vin, Violetand ElodieBerlin,and Nicoand
SaskiaGori-Montanelli.Agravesideservice

Ms.Bledsoe attended Kirksville public
schoolsand earnedabachelor’sdegreein
1962.In 1979,she marriedher husband,
HaroldDavitt.Ms.Bledsoewas one of the
earliestPeaceCorpsvolunteersand served
in the Philippines.Duringthosetimes,she
livedwiththreeothervolunteers,one of
whomsaid:“I rememberMarthluas always
(evenin lateryears)vivacious,interested,
engaged,and involved.She wasalsojust
plainfun.WhenIthinkof her,Ifirst think
of her smileand readylaugh.We werea
hodge-podgekindof group,and she was
very muchat homein it.”
Afteroverseasduty,Ms. Bledsoewasa
PeaceCorpsrecruiterfor several years.She
movedfromthereto politicalcampaigns
and then serviceat manylevelsof the Wash-
ington,DC government.BeforeMs. Bledsoe
retired,she was the program managerfor
amulti-million-dollarwork-trainingcharity.

Ms.Bledsoewas one of the chartermem-
bers of the AdvisoryNeighborhoodCommis-
sionsin DC.She and her husbandmovedto
Ninthand NStreetsand restoredan 1870
townhousedamagedduringthe riots.Ms.
Bledsoewas instrumentalin gettinghistori-
cal preservationdesignationfor that neigh-
borhood.In 2012,she andher husband
movedto RehobothBeach,DE.
Ms.Bledsoefoundher callingin attending
to the needsof others.More thananything,
she cherishedtimespentwiththoseshe
heldmostdear.Ms. Bledsoewas aloving
anddevotedwife,and friend.Lovedby
many,she will be deeplymissedby all who
knewher.

also taughtapprenticeship.Hewas sharpas
atack and meanas awhip.Hewas brutally
honestand the goofiestguy you ever knew.
He had almostno gray in his long jet-black
ponytail.He lovedlivingfar awayfromev-
eryoneand everything.Heplayedbasketball
withhis buddieson Wednesdaynightsfor
over30 years.Helovedhis dogs,cats,and
“hawses”.His passionwas re-enactingthe
“War of NorthernAggression”.The statues
comingdownall overAmericalast year
couldn’thavehelpedhis ticker.
We lost timewithour fatherafterour par-
ents divorced,but foundsomeagainas we
got mucholder.For that we are thankful.
We havegreatchildhoodmemories:tractor
rides,go-carts,JohnnyReb fireworks,dippin’
eggsand dirt igloos,bbguns and bonfires,
rollinggunpowdercartridges,drivingto Day-
tonaBeach,DIY tarp slip-n-slides,sledding
down“SuicideHill” (onceand only once).He
lovedbeingadad whenwe wereyounger.
We love and missyou verymuchOld Man
(we knowyou hatedthat.)Acelebrationof
life was held last June.
He is also survivedby asecondwife and a
sister.

He was bornin Washington,DC,the son of
Italianimmigrants,Dr. SalvatoreFloriaand
Sarina(Balsano)Floria.At age 5, the fami-
ly movedto the Hillandalesectionof Silver
Spring,MD.Two yearslater,Dr. Floriadied
unexpectedly.Now (alonewithher own
familyin the NewYork City area),Sarina
singlehandedlyraised Angeloand his older
brother,the late JosephFloria.Angeloat-
tendedSt. Patrick’sElementarySchoolin
Washington,DC,and graduatedfromthe
Universityof Maryland(CollegePark) with a
majorin journalismand aminor in history.
At age 16,Angelojoinedthe HillandaleVoun-
teer Fire Department.Afteran enlistmentin

the UnitedStatesNavyand serviceaboard
the destroyerUSS Hickox(DD-673)as ara-
dar operator,Angeloservedas Hillandale’s
CaptainandStationTwelveCommander,
and also as Hillandale’sRecordingSecretary
for 25 years.Hetook pridein beingan ag-
gressivefirefighterand, in 1989,was induct-
ed into the MontgomeryCountyVolunteer
Fire-RescueAssociationHallof Fame.In
1992,Angeloretiredfromthe NavalSurface
WarfareCenteras the supervisorof tech-
nicalwriters.Heand Rita movedto Ocean
City that sameyear.After holdingotherem-
ployment,he beganworkin the OceanCity
CommunicationsCenterand spent11 years
as aFire/EMSdispatcher.
Afterbeingelectedas an Honorary member
in the OceanCity VolunteerFire Company
(OCVFC)at age 58, Angelorecertifiedas
an interiorfirefighter,and maintainedthat
certificationuntilage 73. In 2004,he was
giventhe President’sAward and, in 2021,
Firefighterof the Year.Heproudlyserved
the OCVFCuntil his death.Angelois remem-
beredas adevotedhusband,acaringfather,
and an enthusiasticfirefighter.Heenjoyed
afull life and reflectedhis feelingsin three
books:My family*Myself(an autobiogra-
phy),WhiteWolf (a World WarIIhistorical
novel),and VolunteerFirefighter*AMem-
oir.All maybe foundin the OceanCity Li-
brary.From2006-2017,Angelovolunteered
in the AtlanticGeneral HospitalEmergency
Department.

careeras agraphicdesigner.Early during
his 20 yearswiththe InterpretiveDesign
Centerof the NationalPark Service,Nick
receivedthePresidentialAwardforDesign
Excellencefor his workon postersand pub-
licationscelebratingtheBicentennialofthe
AmericanRevolution,and developedmap-
pingstandardsfor the NationalParks after
an extensivestudyof Europeanmapping
systems.

Laterin his timewiththe Park Service,as
Chiefof the GraphicsBranch,Nickcollab-
oratedwiththe internationallyacclaimed
designerMassimoVignellion acohesive
“unigrid”designsystem.His contribution
earnedhim asecondPresidentialAward for
DesignExcellence.Nick eventuallyadapted
the“unigrid”forthe“wayside”(oroutdoor)
informationpanelsnowusedin National
Parksacrossthecountry.
Towardthe end of his career,Nick was cho-
senbyNationalGeographicMagazineto
serveas AssociateArt Directorfor Illustra-
tion.Duringhis decadein that position,he
guidedsomeof the world’sbest illustrators
in pursuitof perfectvisualsfor highlycom-
plexsubjectmatter—from Lyme disease
to Solareclipsesand well beyond.Hiswork
therewasrecognizedwithmultipleawards
fromprintand communication-artsorgani-
zationsand the AmericanSocietyof Illustra-
tors,beforehis retirementin 2000.
Awayfromtheoffice,NickandIreneKirilloff,
his fellowdesignerand wife of 53 years,lov-
inglyrestoredtheir19th-centuryFrederick
townhouse.Nick was also treasuredamong
his friendsfor his big heart,dry humor,un-
assumingmanner,perfectcrêpes,and un-
matchedpickledherring.AlongwithIrene,
his owngreatesttreasureswerehis two
daughters,Marta Barberand KatyaKirilloff,
to whomhe was always“Tato,” the Ukrani-
an equivalentof “Dad.”
In additionto his wifeand daughters,Nick
is survivedby son-in-lawRichardBarber
andgrandsonsKnoxandKaiBarberand

ed in his final hoursby his four childrenand
wife.Born in San Jose,Costa Rica on Feb. 11,
1960,Rickyhad apenchantfor mischiefthat
eventuallyled him to leaveschooland se-
cretlysavemoneyto go to the UnitedStates
and chasethe Americandream.He got on
aplaneto WashingtonD.C. in 1980and,in
astrokeof luck,startedup aconversation
withLeahReostiin the AtlanticGarage
parkinglot wherehe worked.The two were
marriedon June19, 1982and raisedfour
children.Rickyspent20 yearsworkingat
AtlanticGarage,startingas aparkinglot at-
tendantand movingup to managerand su-
pervisor.Alongthe way,heinheritedafew

lawnsthat Leah’sbrotherscut in the Strat-
fordLandingneighborhoodin Alexandria,
Va., andgrewthosefew lawnsinto his own
business,Tenorio’sLawnCare,whichser-
vicedhundredsof customersover the years,
manyof whombecamehis friends.Hehad a
genuinecuriosityfor people’sstories,which
helpedhimformfriendshipswitheveryone
fromhis seniorcitizenclientsto the mail
carriertotheladyatthedelicounteratSafe-
way.Hewas the life of any party,and usually
thebestdanceratthesalsa-andmeren-
gue-filledfiestashe loved.He pulledpeople
to him withhis positiveenergyand sense
of humor.Thosequalitiesalso madehim a
tremendousgrandfather,and he foundhis
greatestjoy in life in his final yearsplaying
with his six grandchildren.He was preceded
in deathby his parents,ClaudioTenorioand
ElidaSanchez.He is survivedby his wife,
Leah;his daughterDr.Sarah Kennealyand
husbandKevin and theirfour children,Sam,
Calvin,KateandJake(Titi);hissonPauland
wifeNikkiand theirtwo children,Jane and
Ben;hissonSamuel;hissonJohnandfiancé
Ali Muir,his five brothers,Rafael(Felo), To-

BornFebruary18, 1928,he was the son of
the late WillardR. and GladysP. (Phillips)
Wachter.Hewas the last survivingmember
of his family.
He is survivedby his daughters,Mary L.
Jones,and husband,Norman,ofDanville,
PA.and BarbaraJ.Smith,of Hagerstown,
MD.; 12 grandchildren;11 great-grandchil-
dren;and one great-great-grandson.
In additionto his parents,hewas preceded
in deathby his lovingwife of 72 years,Della
M. (Peck)Wachter;his sisters,Mary Lavon
Wachter,DarceJean(Wachter)Davison,Pa-
triciaL(Wachter)Zilch;brother,DonaldLee
Wachter;son, StevenDWachter;son-in-law,
EdwardSmith;and step-grandson,Edward
“Ricky”Smith.
AftergraduatingfromHancockHighSchool,
June1946,he enlistedinthe US Armyand
volunteered for para-glider training.He
servedas aparatrooperin the 188thPara-
chuteInfantryRegimentof the 11thAir-
borneDivisionwhilestationedin Occupied
Japan 1946-1948.He was dischargedas a
PlatoonSergeantand joinedthe Airborne
Reserves.
Followingmilitaryservice,heenrolledat
the Universityof Maryland,graduatingin
1952,withaBachelor’sDegreein Educa-
tion.Continuinghis education,he received
aMaster’sDegreein Administrationat the
Universityof Maryland,as well as additional
graduatestudiesat the Universityof Mary-
land and at ColumbiaUniversity.
Ralphbeganhis teachingcareerin 1952,
by becomingthe first BusinessEducation
teacherat HancockHighSchool,in his be-
lovedhometownof Hancock,MD.In1958
he was appointedPrincipalof HancockIn-
termediateSchool.In 1962,he movedhis
familyto CecilCounty,MD.,wherehe had
acceptedapositionas Principalof Bohemia
ManorJr-SeniorHighSchoolin Chesapeake

City,MD. He laterjoinedthe CecilCounty
PublicSchoolAdministrativeStaffas In-
structionalSupervisor,eventuallyappointed
as Supervisorof theirFinanceDepartment.
He left CecilCountyin 1971to becomeSu-
perintendentof the CalvertCountyPublic
SchoolSystemin PrinceFrederick,MD.In
1973,he wasnominatedby the Maryland
StateSuperintendentof Schoolsto study
educationalprogrammingin Austria,Ger-
manyand Denmark.He retiredfromthe
Superintendencyon June30, 1980,after 30
yearsof combinededucationand military
service.
He beganhis businesscareerin the fall of
1980 whenhe becameExecutiveDirector
of the CalvertCountyBoardof Trade,which
was to becomethe CalvertCountyChamber
of Commerce.Heheld that positionthrough
1983,whenhe becameaconsultantand
lateran employeeof JohnsonControls.He
workedin commercialreal estatein Calvert
County,pursingthat career,part-time,until
his late 80’s.
He was activelyinvolvedin manyorganiza-
tionsthroughouthis life: formerPresident
HancockLionsClub,DeputyDistrictGover-
nor of Lions22W,formerPresidentof Ches-
apeakeCity LionsClub,two four-yearterms
as Mayorof Hancock,MD,former member
and ViceChairmanof the MarylandState
Boardof Elections,formermemberof the
WashingtonCountyGamingCommission,
memberof RetiredTeacher’sAssociation,
RetiredSuperintendent’sAssociation,Asso-
ciationof SchoolBusinessOfficials.Aswell,
he was alife memberof,WebsterB. Harri-
son Post 26 AmericanLegion,11th Airborne
Division,Universityof MarylandAlumniAs-
sociation,CalvertCountyChamberof Com-

    She and Charlieraised theirfour childrenin
    ChevyChase,Marylandwithregulartrips
    to RehobothBeach,Delawarewherethey
    sharedmanyspecialtimeswithfamilyand
    friends.
    She wasadevoteddaughter,sister,wife,
    mother,grandmother,aunt and friend.Her
    warmthand laughterwerecontagious.She


had aquick wit and alwaysprovidedsound
adviceand ashoulderto leanon. She had
manypassionsoverthe years including
tennis,Washingtonfootball,bowling,cross-
wordsand first and foremostsharingspecial
momentswith friendsand family.
She spenther last nineyearsat Knollwood
ArmyDistaffwherethe devotedstaff treated
her with tenderlovingcare.

Garrett.She waspredeceasedby her sis-
ter Louise.She leavesbehindfour children,
