Most amateurs may be unaware of the science they could do by
imaging planets through specialized fi lters. This highly detailed
false-color Hubble Space Telescope image of Jupiter was recorded
through near-infrared and methane fi lters, which highlight the alti-
tude of cloud features. Amateurs can take similar fi ltered images
to help determine the origin of transient phenomena.
